As Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows begrudgingly fades in the history of literature, what we have left in looking forward to something related to the direct HP lore is the films. It's been an interesting ride and while speculation continues as to what the future holds for the films; more than enough discussion has been made comparing HP with ( Read more... )

i loved your interpretations of the stories. i see some flaws in your logic in some points -- mainly around the PoA period -- but, i'll have to let your essay sink in, re-read it, decipher it, and then i'll respond to more specific points.

until then, know that i enjoyed reading it very much.

(post-edit. since a lot of people are gonna consider this academic, in a sense, you might wanna change septology to heptalogy... altho' most people will know what it means, septology isn't a real word, to my knowledge.)

Hardly academic. More like the rants of a madman. However I'm just here for the ride and the rest of you are conductors. Punch my ticket.

I kind of read this mixed feelings. I quite watching the films after the first too. The acting of the trio (then) were pretty bad. Dan has grown into acting since then. Re: the stage acting and more grown parts in his other films. i don't know abut the others. Emma Watson still has to prove she can get past wiggling her eyebrows while reciting lines. I have not seen Rupert in his other film.

I don't really care what they do in the films. It would be OK if they totallly changed the story line away from the books. It's a different medium, a visual one where the physcal beauty of Dan and Emma (bye bye bushy hair and big teeth) carry the films. More power to them.

Interesting read (though I found that your syntax and metaphor obscured your point in a few places, so please forgive me if I've misinterpreted you ( ... )

I don't particularly think that what we know how the series ends makes a considerable difference on the next two films. It's more reliant on HBP since it does set up the motivation of what occurs in DH, but DH was a book that was both connected yet very different in structure with the rest of the series. The thing with DH being the final film is whether or not they are going film this as an adaptation of the novel or the finale to the film series. If Yates continues onwards with driving the series to be more film franchise-centric then the fandom for the films could easily be formed as well. Problem is even if the final 2 films with OoTP included manages to bring everything together neatly there's still too much reliance on knowing the text in order to fully appreciate the film series ( ... )
