This is a great essay. As a multi/trio-shipper, I agree with all the points you made, especially:

One of the most significant incidences concerning their friendship occurs in the first chapter of Order of the Phoenix. When Harry, after many fruitless attempts, finally conjures a proper Patronus, he is thinking of Ron and Hermione; not just Ron, not just Hermione, but both of them.

This needs to be pointed out to those who feel that Ron is unimportant as Harry's friend. (which I will not rant about here!)

Also, thank you for not totally dismissing the Ron/Harry ship - while unlikely in canon, it is the most plausible of the Harry slash ships, and often left out in the Great Trio Shipping Debates. And let's not forget the Second Task!

Thanks! I'm really glad you like it :)

And let's not forget the Second Task!

Gaaaah... *facepalm* I can't believe I didn't think to mention that in the essay. Yeah, the second task is really important to the Harry/Ron love. Ron is the thing that Harry would miss the most, after all! Gotta love the subtext there.

And when they weren't talking Harry missed Ron quite a lot too. He even said that hanging out with only Hermione is not much fun.

Great Essay! I'm super proud of the thought you put into it. Can I refer people to read it who aren't members of LJ?

f Ron and Hermione got together, that would mean that Harry would be the odd one out. Would this affect him at all? I don't think it would. Harry has been isolated his whole life. He spent ten years at the Dursleys, living in a tiny cupboard, with no friends.

Harry has experienced this seclusion before, so if Hermione and Ron became a couple, I don't think it would faze him very much.
....

If Hermione and Harry got together, that may be the last straw for Ron. Harry is the hero, he saved the world, and now he got the girl. There would be nothing left for Ron. I very disagree with this. First of all Harry wasn't a happy camper whenever he is excluded from Trio activities be it Hogsmeade visits or spending time at Grimmauld Place. One has him risking running in the arms of a mass murderer just to join Ron and Hermione and the other causes severe hissyfits. Of course there are other forces at work, too, but if you believe that Harry will have no problems living his Dursley-era isolation again, then you underestimate Harry's ( ... )

After endless debates I sincerely and with all my heart hope each of them ends up either alone or with new and different people by the end of the books.
