Harry a Horcrux? goddlefrood April 10 2007, 12:06:10 UTC
While I am enjoying this series of essays I have to say that I can not agree with the statement that Harry is a Horcrux, in part or in whole, and whether accidentally or not.

This part of the plot, viz Horcruxes, in my opinion, holds no real mystery. In the chapter Horcruxes (23 of HBP) Dumbledore sets out all he knows of Horcruxes before Harry. The standard objection of Dumbledore being economic with the truth is one that has been levelled at me before. Quite simply I see no reason for Dumbledore to have withheld information on Horcruxes at that point in the series. He may have done so at other times, but in the instance cited, I do not believe he did ( ... )

In DH, someone will once again do something new during an interaction with Harry that he will notice.
This one is vague to the point of sillyness. The whole thing would be stronger if you dropped it.

it's more of the way it is presented - the narrator specifically points out that the character is interacting with harry in a new way.

A thought on Harry the Horcrux, (I do think you've made a very convincing case, these are a few picky bits.) Harry's scar does not react every time it comes into contact with Voldie. (No pain upon Quirrel and Harry's first meeting, or the several hours in the great hall before Snape looks at him, or during most of his DADA classes, or when Quirrel tries to curse him off his broom, etc...) And, the first time it fires is when Snape and Quirrel are talking to each other. Snape looks at Harry, then the scar fires. This may have been the first time Voldemort in Quirrel lets off some of his annoyance at the "loss" of one of his most trusted allies ( ... )
