Ok, I have a theory, it's not really a "new" theory , and i have a feeling that not many people will agree. But my theory is that the main characters (5 of them) from the WMPP era were in love with Lily.

James Potter
DUH.. she was his wife.

Remus Lupin
I think that Remus and Lily are very similar, even though Lily is popular, she is smart and logical ( Read more... )

he was her wife.

I think the word you're looking for here is "husband", hon. At least I hope so.

Oh, I dunno. Add a strap-on and it makes for some interesting mental images.

Oh? I find there's always a need for mental images of one kind or another: they're almost as much fun as a sense of humour.

I think this is an interesting idea but it would have been served better had it been tied into an actual plot-related theory, or the relevance of it suggested. I think it also would have helped if you had some canon references for some things: in particular, the Remus/Tonks bit was a bit of speculative interpretation that didn't seem backed up by the text.

It's probably likely that Lily was liked by all the characters, but the reasons for which and the consequences are even more interesting, I think.

Just a tip: it's spelled S E V E R U S not Serveus.

Hmm.. I don't see what this has to do with development of plot or a plot related theory. There's no referencing, so I don't see what you're trying to get at. I, for one, have never been of the opinion that Severus (not Serveus btw) loved Lily. At the very most they had mutual respect for each other, and I stand by that. I think it would have benefitted you to lead this essay to a point of relevance, and not just a statement of opinions.

You are right, it is not a new theory. A thousand fanfics have been launched on this basis.

My problem with it is that it actually cheapens the complex relationships these characters had with each other and eventually develop with the second generation. I might agree with the idea of some of the Marauders admiring her but basically not giving in to school boy crushes carried on their sleeves into adulthood.

Lily is not a Wendy surrounded by the Lost Boys. She was the girl who fell in love with and married James. It seems pretty clear that the other characters (SB, RL, PP, and SS) all had pretty full plates after leaving Hogwarts. Carrying a crush on Lily, to me, is not there.

I just had to comment to say that that is so perfect. I've never really been able to put my finger on it, but Lily's relationship to the Marauders is depicted that way so often (what I shall now call "Wendy Syndrome"), despite no evidence of it (and much against it) in canon, and that is the perfect way to describe it.

LOL. The Wendy Syndrome could apply in RL for some us too.

I think it is too easy to make Lily the madonna/lover object. To me it makes her less than three demensional. No, she loved and was loved by only one man and that was James.
