So, by now I'm sure everyone must have seen the picture of Dumbledore's Army with Neville in a Hogwarts uniform sweater vest, and the picture of Neville holding a potted plant while wearing same.
I was fortunate enough to have been given a sweater that my mother found at Goodwill that was made of the exact right colour of DK-weight 100% wool yarn for a PoA-and-later-style Hogwarts uniform (although it did have some ugly crochet granny squares around the neckline and cuffs; one imagines it must have been from the 70s), and have frogged it, washed the yarn, wound it into center-pull balls and begun knitting (having purchased a couple of balls of Nature Spun Sport in the appropriate green and silver, of course).
Now, possibly as a consequence of the ugly granny squares at the neckline and cuffs, or possibly as a consequence of the waste inherent in my first foray into recycling yarn, I suspect I may not have enough yarn to make full sleeves. And I'm all right with that; the only thing I'm wondering now is how deep I should make the ribbing at the armholes.
The largest picture of Neville with the potted plant that I can find with a cursory Google, and thus my best reference, is
this one. It isn't really large enough or high enough resolution to see how deep said armhole ribbing might be. I tend to think it might be around 1/2" to 3/4"; thoughts?
In a related story, I note that in the Dumbledore's Army picture Ginny is wearing trousers. This makes me inordinately happy as I have the devil of a time finding skirts to fit both my tiny waist and large hips at the same time, and so have now decided to wear trousers instead. I have placed a bid on eBay on a pair of men's charcoal dress slacks which will probably fit and hope nobody outbids me. :)
I hereby promise pictures of the finished Slytherin sweater vest as soon as it becomes possible to provide them.
