I've got another question.
Would a British person use the phrase "ease up"? Like, "Ease up on him," or "Lay off him," or "Go easy on him." The context is that Snape is being mean to someone and someone else is telling him to stop being so mean. Are any/all of these phrases appropriate? If not, what would be?
