OMG! You reduced me to squealing like a teenager when I saw what pairing you had picked and and when I sensed what might come of it. (I honestly hadn't imagined this pairing even though I suggested both characters as ones I'd like.) And then the actual story... This was better than anything I could have imagined ( ... )

Oh god, this is excellent. So thoughtful and well-written and full of layers! I love that you chose Neville to represent the wizards' point of view -- he's not mean, he means well, he's just really clueless, never having given thought to the goblins' position before. And Filius struggling to reconcile his identity with his heritage is so wonderful and poignant.

Some favourite lines:

Moving closer to Griphook is like coming nearer to a roaring fire, hands and face becoming hot.

Griphook is a wolf while Filius is a dog, soft and domesticated, but he can bare his teeth and show claws too.

He finds he can't think in Gobbledegook and do this at the same time, it is too much - a foreign language, and yet not foreign - the language of his blood.

The house below the roots of the poplar trees, cool and dark. Mushrooms that grew from the damp walls after a rain, that could be picked and eaten just as they were, tasting richly of the earth. <-- This whole section. MY HEART.

Thank you! I'm glad Neville's good intentions came across, because I really wanted to portray that he meant well but it's all just so foreign to what he's always been told about goblins, growing up among wizards.

Fascinating! What an unusual take on Filius... and a Neville who is new to the character of Griphook and the whole concept of goblin views and learns about it first-hand, not via "beware of" like Harry did..... His reaction is very IC... I wonder how his relationship to Filius will be after this night....

That's a good question! It's certainly not something you'd just forget. Thanks for your feedback. :)
