like rusted scaffolding refusing to collapse upon itself

That is one of the most poetic lines of personal decline I have ever read.

Excellent drabble.

And it was one of those lines/images that came with sudden and unexpected ease (something that happens all too rarely!). I'm glad it spoke to you, too. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your reaction.

Wow. I so have to agree with the Demon on her assessment of this piece.

If this were a painting, it would hang in a museum...

Well, I don't know if it's museum quality, but the image in my head of Draco in this particular scene is quite vivid. I'm glad that made it through in the writing. Thank you so much for the kind words.

The suggestion of Draco being in some way pared down to something that, at the critical moment, can resist Voldemort is almost medieval. The rusted scaffold imagery manages to suggest blood and penance. Very well written.

What struck me most was the title. So many meanings packed into one word that perfectly describes your eloquent story.

Wow.

It took me a while to decide on the title; I'm glad you thought it was so fitting. Thank you so much. I'm really awed by the response this drabble has been receiving!

I read this yesterday and I kept thinking about it.
It's wonderfully done, definitely my favorite of this challenge.
Just Beautiful.
