I couldn't begin to tell you why this drabble works so well, but it definitely does. I think you've really captured Sirius here; although I've never seen any evidence of it in canon, the possessiveness and jealously of him here has the ring of truth about it.
Not only that, but I can just see him so clearly. Not just the actions you detailed, but the look on his face as he moves away from the tent, the particularly arrogant slouch he assumes as he inhales from his cigarette...
Yeah, it's late here. But you've done a great job on this. :) Aren't drabbles fun, and challenging?
