Wonderful concept... it seems like the four founders did the Sorting as well...

I think that the concept owes a lot to persephone_kore - hers, I think, was the first fic I read that had the four founders discussing the Sorting.

But the concept is also based on the Riddle diary in CoS - the possibility of preserving yourself in an inanimate object sounds a lot like the description of how the Founders created the Sorting Hat. I thought it possible that if the hat were to be destroyed, this would release the memories of the Founders.
