Dating 101

Unfortunately, I underestimated the time maintaining this journal would take. I get an awful lot of emails from people and though I’ve enjoyed the experience thus far, other things in my life require a lot of time and energy from the at the moment, such as: running my own business and working with my publisher and agent to get my book ready for ( Read more... )

~~~ stands and applauds excellent advice. Especially the bit about CALLING after the date.
Oh man... this one guy...
Not only didn't call me, but refused to return mine. Six months later I run into him again and he tells me he still loves me and wishes we'd kept dating.
I just sighed.
It's a shame, I rather liked this journal. Maybe you can cut back a bit and authorize other (pre-qualified) women to help out? I can tell you that it's great for us guys to be able to get a glimpse at how women think... er feel. *ducks*
I seem to have the biggest problem with intimidation. I can't tell you how many women assumed I'm a big, hairy ogre (how many ogres wear glasses? What, am I the geeky ogre? With the overclocked club?) because I tend to be very straight forward. I've had one tell me that, when we first met, she thought I was a bit scary. Alas, she met someone before I could change that impression (I swear, "all the good ones are taken isn't just a saying, it's a damn Law of the Universe (TM)).
Either that, or they're afraid they can't live up to my expectations - that she thought I needed a higher-class woman. My stars, woman... I'm a white-trash redneck! What on earth would I do with a high-class woman?
No no, they're all taken or GAY.
However, that saying automatically insults whoever is saying it.
Okay, so you're big, you're hairy, you wear glasses, you're very straightforward, you're a geek? I guess you're also very articulate and intelligent. Perhaps not so hot on the 'approachable, laid-back, easy company' side ( ... )
Your books on the subject were probably written by guys.
Most of my girlfriends agree WITHIN two days, not AFTER two days. There is even a good female friend of mine saying so at the top of the comments.
Dutch is when you pay 50/50 or for your own meals.
Now, the most important thing is that you've missed the first date rule completely. It's a risk free trial period. You have no obligation. Thus, you are not 'using' anyone, because you're going on a date with them, being nice and getting to know them. That's all your first date obligations met.
" It’s always prudent to bring enough money to cover you and your date, even if you expect to go Dutch. I’m a woman and I do it because I don’t want to get arrested if my date turns out to be cheap. All guys should do it, just in case the woman you are with expects you to pay."
I grew up expecting to pay for the dates so its hard for me to go on a date without money with me. But it is good advise because i know girls that completely refuse to have thier dinner paid for.
I'll miss reading this journal. It helps not only single people but also people in a relationship that don't know what to do or where to go in it.
Robin.
C'est la vie. I second the idea of getting one of your friends to help?
I love your icon.
I've asked some of my friends. Most of them don't seem to feel qualified.
Hey, did I miss something here? Happy to help! Mind you, my experience of dating and relationships is somewhat Aspergers-oriented, but if I can relate, I'll do so.
Yeah, it gave me a chuckle, I hope one of them "steps up". What I've seen was very interesting. ;)
