META AS FUCK ITT

Another pop culture quote that helps sum up some of my feelings re: fandom, this time from the Family Guy ep in which Stewie tried his hand at acting ~~

"I guess the best advice I got was from Marty Scorsese. I was having a problem understanding why I'd be taking abuse from this lower-ranking officer played by Chris O'Donnell. And he told me, ' ( Read more... )

DUDE. WORD. AND I HATE TO BE CLICHE HERE, BUT, LOOK AT OUR TOKEN CRACK ADDICT. THEY KNOW CRACK IS BAD FOR THEM. THEY KNOW IT WILL KILL THEM SOME DAY. BUT THEY DO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE THEY ARE ADDICTED. WILSON'S THE SAME WAY. REALLY. AND I THINK HOUSE HIT HOME WITH THE "YOU'RE SCARED TO LOSE ME SO YOU'RE PUSHING ME AWAY" LINE. TOTALLY 110% AGREE WITH THAT ASSESSMENT. WILSON TRIED TO RUN FROM EVERYTHING BECAUSE AMBER'S DEATH AFFECTED HIM SO MUCH, AND SCARED HIM SO MUCH. THE PROBLEM IS HOUSE WILL KEEP CHASING. HE'S LIKE CRACK. AND WILSON KNOWS THAT. IT'S TOTALLY FUCKKED UP BUT THAT'S WHY I LIKE IT.

I have no problem with Wilson being happy with the Tritter-apology.

I also have no problem with Wilson returning at the end of Birthmarks, at least from a characterization POV. That's Wilson, and the arc progressed pretty naturally from "Wilson has had a paradigm shift and is now looking out for himself more" to "Wilson has discovered that being BFF with House IS looking out for himself, in a certain dysfunctional but uniquely satisfying way."

BUT, from a storytelling POV, I think the writers missed a HUGE opportunity to show us a little more explicitly WHY Wilson is the way he is. The time was ripe, it would have fit in nicely, it would have rounded out the episode. And they can't do any of that NOW for quite a while yet without it feeling weird... we'll have to wait for another crisis, methinks.

I took the Tritter apology as Wilson accepting it because House isn't the type to actually apologize for his actions, therefore he'll take what he can get in that regard. There were also looks exchanged, if I remember, and sometimes reading the other person can say more than words. I didn't really get why it was enough at the time, but it fits with what we know of their backstory now.

As for Wilson coming back to House in "Birthmarks"? Eh, there was probably some inner monologue going on in various driving and glaring at House scenes, during the funeral and after the bottle throwing incident and whatnot that we weren't privy to. Maybe it could have been written a little better, but I don't care because I liked the end result. Things aren't perfect between the two of them yet, so I'm still expecting some drama to occur, but I'm happy that Wilson's back and they can go back to causing each other grief. <3

As Boris the philosopher said (in Lady and the Tramp): Miserable being must find more miserable being then he's happy.

Really I was just somewhat unhappy with it because I was hoping for MOAR WILSON TIME. And more House Wilson angst guarantees more Wilson time. That said, though, I did really like "Birthmarks" and "Lucky 13."
