Oh, am I allowed to take guesses?

Very nice intro - it catches you right up in it, and it's very Anya. I'm looking foward to the rest.

Of course you're allowed to make guesses! I just don't have to tell you if you're right or not...

Glad you enjoyed it! It has four parts, and I'll post the next three all within a week, I think.

I love you. You know that, but it needs repeating. This is great, the sense of disconnect, the similarities and all of it. Your Anya feels so perfect, and I can totally empathize with her, something I very seldom do with fandom Anya, and the touches of humour make me smile.

Much love. I can't wait to see what happens next.

and she could almost pretend that she wasn’t worried that he’d turn out to be something dreadfully in need of slaying.

Brilliant ending.

I'll gush more over the next segment.

*beams happily* I'm so thrilled you're enjoying this, and as I recall, you know the ending, don't you? No spoiling the peanut gallery, you clever Mhal, you.

No spoilers, promise.

As an aside, I like how you're writing Anya's reaction to Xander. It felt very real, and I forgot to mention that the first time. Very nice way of moving her forward.

Given where Anya was at the end of Yesterday's Sunrise I think this is a logical progression for her. I felt that canonically in the show, that while ANya loved Xander, she also loved the idea of him more than the actual him sometimes. And he treated her like crap.

Heh heh heh.... Just read and commentated over at TtH, but I thought I'd make more of a detailed guess over here, rather than spoil things if I'm right. I'm betting on Giles being Giles, just looking like he's in his 30's. Almost as if he hasn't been aging properly. Almost as if he's say... the human servant of the Master of London?

Love this little universe you have here houses, and am enjoying your Anya immensely.

*grin* I'm glad you like my Anya! I'm rather pleased with her myself. Human servant of the Master of London? Good guess, but I'm not saying any more than that!

Oh, my. I love the way you've explored Anya and her motivations here. And I'm intrigued by what has changed in Giles.

I do love exploring Anya. She's a treat to deal with in a realistic way--all too often fanfic writers give her short shrift. In all her glory she can be, well, glorious. Thanks for the review!

I love Anya because I can totally connect with her utter pragmatism, as well as her confusion with humanity. It's not that she's stupid, likes to shock, or any of the other traps that writers fall into with her, it's that she's absolutely direct, and I think you captured that well.

Thank you. I really try to make her a realistic character, given her background and motivations. I tend to stay away from Anya fics, mostly because so many writers turn her into something I can't relate to. The fundamental Anyaness that I loved so much on the show is all too often lost when an author serves a particular agenda.
