[ota] just a guy, you know?

He'd had a delightful lunch and coffee with one of the Spade housekeepers. She'd been rather stressed by recent events and all too happy to share her woes to someone with an understanding ear and sympathetic tone. They'd even set up for a follow-up dinner date later in the week ( Read more... )

He walked out of the coffee shop, sipping coffee, and he seemed to be looking for a place to sit. And everything was taken, except... He approached Pete and pointed at the spare seats at his table, "Perdoname amigo, do you mind if I sit? All the other chairs are taken."

Pete looks up from the paper and smiles at Juan Pedro. "No problem, I don't mind the company."

And after reading over his own words again, he'd much prefer conversation, anyway. "Didn't expect it to be quite so busy today, huh?"

"Thanks" he slips down to sit and folds his legs, one over the other, sighing while he takes a good sniff of his coffee. "Yes well, the days are darker, and with the cold weather, I think we all want a little inside heat to keep us going in the cold. It is hard to find energy, we must all want to hibernate when it is getting a little chilly don't you think?"

"Como va todo? Everything well with you?"

"It could certainly be that. Probably is. Why we all reach for the soup too, I imagine." He smiles at that and pushes the paper over for Juan Pedro to see, "As well as can be expected. Of course, I always feel better when I've got something published."

The doctor's just stopping by for his afternoon caffeinated pick-me-up. A necessary thing more and more often; for years now, he's been unsure (and a tad unwilling to find out) what'd happen if he tried cutting back. Especially since the coffee always leaves him feeling so much more like a human being. Enough so that he'll even stop by Pete's table, briefly.

"Read the article this morning. Nice work, Mr. Markson."

Pete smiles up at Caleb, "and now you know the rest of the story."

He'll even wave over at the open chair, "looking for a seat, while you're at it or in a hurry to get back to work, Caleb?"

Mr. Markson just sounded so very formal.

Sorry for the formality, Pete; Caleb's just never been very good at this whole socializing thing, and it's always easier to default to doctorspeak. "Excellent reporting, as always. Good to see someone has a grasp of possible repercussions." He takes the offered seat, settling in.

"I'm not rushing to get back. Sunday's a pretty quiet day. Mostly paperwork and confirming this week's appointments. I have a few patients I want to make sure I see before the holidays start, but nothing too serious."

"Kind of my job, in more ways than one, now." Since he's working for the Royals and all. "And it seemed like somebody needed to lay it all out there, so why not me?"

And he'll nod, "Good. Nothing wrong with taking your time while you've got the chance, I think."
