[OTA] Up and Down and Up Again

It can be said, at least, that for as strange as the last few weeks have been - snowstorms, friends leaving, upper Spades leaving and sending accounting into a frenzy - it's unlikely that Zoe's going to wake up tomorrow morning hungover, with Elisha on the couch, a broken coffee table, and Victor with a separated shoulder

Elani didn't really have an excuse to be here, unless being here to visit a friend counts.

It totally does.

Still, she pauses in the doorway and waits for Zoe to finish before she begins applauding.

"I suppose it's happened before, sometime. Just...to people we don't know."

There were plenty of people in the Deck she wasn't actually acquainted with, after all.

She nods. "That's true. It seems so small...but there are thousands of people." Only a few thousand in the Castles and Town...but there were the outskirts, the farms and ranches and orchards, and the outposts.

A lot of people they rarely saw.

"I guess it's small....comparatively?" From what she'd seen of Outside, after all. "But yeah."

And then she shakes her head, "anyway, we shouldn't mope. They'll be fine, doing whatever drew them Outside. We'll be find here."

"Exactly," she says with a soft smile. She was happy here, which was odd to think, the way this year had gone.

But something more cheerful. "What are you doing for a Halloween costume this year?" She asks as she picks up the plate of scones Chives had left and offers Elani one. "I think Blythe said it wouldn't be as formal as a masquerade this year."

"I...have it narrowed down to a few options? Well, two, really."

Though she thinks one of them might be too similar to what she wore last year.

Oh, Zoe remembers that costume well enough. Mostly because it had made her feel mildly murderous annoyed, given the stares it had gotten from...someone.

"Which are they?" She'd been thinking of Morgan le Fay a couple months ago, but then she'd come up with Prague as an idea instead. She smiles a little. "Another dancer? Ballerina?"

"I was talking with-...someone...recently about the Aladdin I'm helping Hadyn with? And he mentioned what a good Scheherazade he thought I would make." She pauses and maybe her cheeks color pink, just a little, "so I was thinking about that but you know it would probably end up looking a lot like what I wore last year."

So Elani shrugs a little, "but then I was thinking about something like Tinkerbell? From Peter Pan?" And to demonstrate, she'll pull all of her hair into her hands and hold it up in a twisted bun on her head to mimic the style of the pixie who follows Peter around.

Zoe's brows raise at that - mostly at the blushing - but she just laughs a little. "Yes, I think it would end up looking a lot like last year. But Tinkerbell? That would be entirely different.

"I'm sort of sorry I'm going to miss it, it sounds like the party will be fun."

"I thought it would be a fun costume, with the wings? And the little pom poms on my shoes." She grins.

"...and I'm sure you can find plenty of fun on your trip, right?"

"It'll be really cute, I think." Her eyes widen a bit. "I'm sure whoever thought you'd be a lovely Scheherazade will think you're a very cute Tinkerbell," she adds mischievously, before laughing a little.

"I'm sure I'll have lots of fun," she says. "I'll bring you some Czech glass."

Oh, Zoe, now she's blushing even more obviously. "Thank you, Zoe."

"You should take pictures, too!" she adds, "so we can live vicariously through your trip, of course."

"Oh, I will," she says. "Poor Victor will probably have to stop every three feet so I can be a tourist."

She might mention to him that Elani seems interested in someone. He'd want to know about it.

Elani laughs, "I can see it now. You should get him a t-shirt to wear."

She's pretty certain she's never seen the man in such clothing.

"Let's be realistic," Zoe says with a laugh. "He'll never appear in public in anything less formal than a three piece suit."

Except, sometimes, when he was coming back from off-Deck, but those clothes disappeared as quickly as Chives could make them.

"Probably not," she smiles, "but I think it's part of his charm."

And of course, surely there was something to be said for a well-dressed man.
