[OTA] Work. Forever.

Oddly enough, Silas is having a hard time finding sleep tonight. He spent a good three hours in bed and achieved nothing but discovering that he has an impressive ability to find faces in the wallpaper and patterns in the ceiling, so he gave up and is now sitting at his desk in the King's office, which is still scattered with the things he's ( Read more... )

Danielle will like to say she was up working all night when she came to see the new King. Her attempts to improve the system in the IM department had kept her away for the past few days long enough to make this plausible. But a few hours ago she was officially finished. Silas should have the paperwork to prove this. And her hair was in a braid and her face was washed and clear of makeup. She was supposed to be asleep, she should be asleep. But the folder in her hand indicates something.

"Your Majesty King Silas?" Her words follow after she knocked on the door. Until the door was closed, she was rigid and proper and oddly cold. "May I have a word with you? It's in regards of my time here on the Deck. Or, properly, the time when I'm not on Deck."

He had the paperwork and had already finished and signed off on it long before she ever arrived at his office. He's nothing if not efficient, and that's something that Silas takes deep pride in.

His own face is showing signs of a need to shave, but he hasn't gotten there yet. It's not quite late enough to call the time of day 'early,' so he's not worrying himself with it quite yet. Give him a few more hours and he'll go for that shower and shave, but for right now, it's nothing to concern himself with.

When she knocks, he looks up. "Enter, and go ahead and close the door. I actually have something I'd like to talk to you about, as well, and it's as much a personal favor as it is a request from the King. But please, you speak first." And he'll pour tea. He made it not long ago, and since Isaac is in bed, or at least should be in bed, it's all he has on hand. But he makes damn good tea, so she'll probably enjoy it.

"You should rest, your Majesty Silas." She says this as she closes the door but the moment it clicks. "Thank you for seeing me, Silas. Especially at this unholy hour. You must be tired from all the overview you have to do as King now ( ... )

He takes that folder and flips through it quickly, then shakes his head. "You've always had this time for yourself, Danielle, and I won't take that away from you. But I do need to ask that you do this...one thing for me."

Tea is always the answer, and Silas is drinking heartily. "I need someone capable and efficient to head down to the outposts with the next round of Town Diamonds. I need that someone to provide me with reports of everything, from recovery efforts to strangeness in the area. We can't risk another attack right now, and our strength has always been in the fortitude of many led by the patience of one." A serious look. "You possess both of those things, Danielle, and come Hell or high water, if I had my choice, I would send you out there.

"You're free to refuse the job, but I'd like you to know that it comes with a private bonus to your paycheck while you're out there."

Someone else was having a bit of a restless night. His two dates with Silas had been... surprisingly good. It wasn't awkward, and despite his issue with contact, he didn't seem to mind being somewhat close, if not touching. And the bashful looks and smiles were entirely beyond endearing. Stretching in bed, Bren looked over at his phone on the nightstand, reaching out to grab it and sending a quick text to Silas. If the new King was sleeping, it wouldn't bother him, but, if he was up...

Can't sleep.

Silas heard his phone go off, but he was enveloped in a very elaborate form, so it took him a bit to get to it. When he did, though, he smiled. Bren was texting him? Hell, Bren was thinking of him at this hour? He hadn't heard from him much since Sunday, but considering that the Spade had let him know that he'd like to see him again, well. Silas was eager for any and all contact from him -- as long as it wasn't physical.

Me either. I spent a few hours trying, then gave up. I think my office could use some redecorating. :| This is not cute at all.

That sent, he looked down at the paperwork in front of him, then sighed. He couldn't do anything else. Not now that Bren was texting him. If it took too long, he would assume that the other man had gone to sleep finally and he'd get back to work, but otherwise, he would be waiting.

He read the reply, half dozing by the time it came in. Grinning, he sent back:

Not in the slightest. It's the complete opposite of adorable. What're you doing right now?

All Silas could do was grin, really. The response was lightning-fast.

Was trying to get more work done, but I'm giving up on that for now. When's the last time you saw this office? [attached is a photo of it in all its hideous glory] What are //you// doing at the moment?

It's not that he doesn't understand. He does. Every step up the ladder had been time shaved off the sleep schedule. Clearly, the jump from Ten to King would shave even more time away from actual rest.

But it's late, Silas.

Door-tap. Door-tap and silent, brow-arched reminder to check your watch.

Looking up at Cadogan's knock, he steals another glance at the clock on the wall -- God, he needs to redecorate in here. Sighing at the time, he rubs his eyes with a shake of his head. "I swear, I did try to sleep. Come in and tell me why you're still awake, my friend." And he's even in his pajamas; clearly, this is proof of attempted sleep, as is the scruff on his face and the mussed state of his hair. He pours tea for both himself and Cadogan, then sits back in his chair.

He does approve of the gesture made toward going to bed. That's something, at least. Cadogan hasn't even made it that far. But he'll slink in, tug out the habitual pack of cigarettes to offer, and sit a little heavily across from his King.

/Just the usual. Isn't an interesting story./

He snorts, taking a cigarette and reaching for the lighter off to the side of his desk. It's his turn to provide the fire, right? "At this hour? Any story is a good story. Try me." He'll even set paperwork aside and lean forward. "And for the record, if your Judging Eyebrows can order me to bed, my words can do the same for you." And he'd be doing that, once both men were too bored of being vertical to do anything but go be horizontal for a while.
