[OTA] Up and Down and Up Again
It can be said, at least, that for as strange as the last few weeks have been - snowstorms, friends leaving, upper Spades leaving and sending accounting into a frenzy - it's unlikely that Zoe's going to wake up tomorrow morning hungover, with Elisha on the couch, a broken coffee table, and Victor with a separated shoulder.
Which is what happened last year at this time.
Still...it's been weird. Sandy's leaving had been out of nowhere, for Zoe, at least, and while she'd called and Sandy and Nico were definitely not together...she suspected it had been related. Sandy'd been in love with him, after all, and Zoe wasn't sure Dr. Rhodes felt exactly the same way. That was a hard thing to weather; for a long while, she'd felt exactly the same with Victor. On top of that, there was the Meghana Problem - the Ten had had access to a lot, a lot of which was outside Zoe's jurisdiction, but a lot that was within it. The last few days had been spent changing security keys, moving funds, writing up a new schedule for fund transfers - just to be on the safe side. It had been a few years since the Spades had closed and reopened accounts, which wasn't smart either, and Zoe'd needed to come up with a process for that. It wasn't difficult, at least, since she'd had a process when she was Head of Finance at the Hearts. Still, technically they should have had one already.
All in all, it's a good day to do something she has to concentrate on, something that won't let her worry unnecessarily about things she can't do anything about at this point - Sandy, or Meghana, or Tegan, or whatever else she manages to come up with - and so Zoe's at the piano, not playing jazz, but a highly complicated sonata by Liszt. It was one of those things Charlotte made her learn, so she knows it's one of those things she has to work at to play right.
