Since I am the maintainer of a brand new community, I am going to be getting a lot of requests for help using livejournal. In the interest of not repeating and repeating, I decided to make this post to direct the newbies to.
Welcome Newbies!
When I joined LiveJournal I had trouble getting started; it has a steep learning curve. But once you dive in, it's easy. Don't be afraid!
So you want to join
danny_jordan or some other community. Follow my step-by-step instructions. I make learning fun!
1. Joining LiveJournal
You want to go to
livejournal.com and register.
2. Joining a community
Go to the community's page and in the header bar you should be able to click "Join this community." If not, hover over the communities icon and then click "Join Community." Some communities require that you be accepted by the moderator before you can post. If so, be patient.
3. Be aware of the rules for posts
Almost every community has rules it want's posters to obey, and your post may be deleted (or worse, you could be kicked out of the comm) if you don't comply. These rules ensure the convienience of the other members and protect the comm from getting in trouble and being terminated by LiveJoural. The rules are your friend! You can see
danny_jordan's rules
here.
4. Post away!
Now you're ready to generate some content and be heard! You can post by viewing the comm's page and clicking "post to this community". OR click "post to my journal" and choose the community from the pull down menu titled "post to".
This should be all you need to know. If you are having trouble with the livejournal cut, see my post about
why it took me so long to cut. Also check my
using livejournal tag to see what else I have to say on the topic.
