Drabbling in The Workshop

Jul 16, 2006 19:46

genagirl recently had a great idea for a writing exercise. She wrote six 100-word drabbles that connected to create a single story. Her idea, beautifully executed, is here: The Space Between Us.

The latest writing exercise for The Clinic draws from that, and it also aims to incorporate some of the good information about drabbles that extrabitter recently brought to ( Read more... )

Here's something - odd: http://genagirl.livejournal.com/33261.html

I used summer vacation as my theme but I was in a weird mood.

Should have posted earlier - try following the above! Anyway, here's my shot at it, with absolutely nothing to do with the summer, or vacations for that matter. For an extra challenge, each one is exactly 100 words - no more no less, although I decided to let myself cheat a bit with the titles.

Title: Niyamas, or One Night at Wilson’s
Author: Namaste
Rating: Gen, House and Wilson friendship
Summary: Hanging out with some beer and some baseball.
Author’s Note: This has nothing to do with vacations, though it is summer. And I managed to make each one 200 words or less. That's tough.

I based these around the yoga concepts of the niyamas -- but before you run away screaming, be assured there are no downward dogs or triangle poses within. No philosophy is actually bandied about. It’s just a structural thing.

Drabbles are new to me, so any feedback as to whether they work would be appreciated. If they do, I may try a related series based around the yamas.

Ha ha, I did exactly the opposite of jadesfire2808 -- I wrote six summer-related drabbles that don't fit into a single story.

I'm not sure if I should even post this here, because in that sense I totally didn't meet the challenge. But, because I did take my inspiration from this challenge, I feel it's only fair to inflict the result on you people. :)

Here's my entry, which I think has completely re-arranged my brain.

Title: A Map of the Body
Author: PWCorgigirl
Rating: PG
Warnings: None. The characters are House and Ingrid, the massage therapist we first met in Detox, but the setting is medical, not sexual.

And it's all here: http://pwcorgigirl.livejournal.com/38858.html#cutid1
