The Examination: Daasgrrl

There are a lot of good Housefic writers out there who can deliver a devastating scene of tragedy with just the right touch that will leave readers in tears.

There are others who can deftly dash off the most absurd bits of humor that they make laugh until you cry.

Not many can handle both, but consider daasgrrl and her fics which make it seem easy to ( Read more... )

Stone the crows and crikey mate - another Ozzie, as my lovely Californian friend always says.

Interestingly enough Jesse Spencer was brought up in the North Shore of Sydney and you can't buy a house there for under 5 million there now.

I had no idea you were responsible for BH - lovely funny vid.

But I'd like to know - when did you start watching House? I had all but given up on anything besides the 7.30 Report, but with House and Boston Legal I'm a bit more into TV now - and a bit more willing to give things a go.

And are you going to vote Labor in the upcoming election?

LOL - Hi, Sheep! Can't get away from us, mate.

If Chase (as opposed) to JS were a Sydney guy, I'd pick him for the Eastern Suburbs type in a minute.

Thanks for the comment on the vid!

I watched House from Day One, because HUGH LAURIE. With a cane! Being American!

I don't know. But I'm not voting Liberal. You?

Noooooo! How could you vote Liberal! I've lost all respect for you XD

Erm, since I've probably already asked you many of the pressing questions I had about your fanfic when we spoke previously, I'd just like to thank you to consenting to the interview. It was a solid, interesting read.

Hee, I thought you knew everything already ;)

I'd love to write... if I could think of anything! But I am looking forward to this season, even if it's just to watch.

Namaste's questions always hit the mark, so she's a tough act to follow!

But since I know you are a Sherlock Holmes fan*, can I ask what you think of House and Wilson compared to Holmes and Watson? Do you wish they were more similar, or do you prefer the way that Shore and Co. have digressed from that model?

*unless I actually dreamed that... reality can be so confusing.

Oh yes, absolutely a Holmes fan! Oh, the Victorian angst! *g*

I think I love them both, but they're so entirely different that it's really easy for me to forget that one is supposed to be based on the other. Because apart from being very smart (and tall *g*) and in the mystery business, House doesn't have many of the traits I associate with Holmes. Even their basic methodology is very different - House just kind of throws ideas around until one sticks. I think Holmes would rather have disapproved of that!

Also, as Watson narrates, he plays himself down so much to let Holmes' brilliance shine that much more brightly, whereas in H/W you get a much more 'objective' idea of how Wilson is in his own right because of the format.

I would say I'm very happy to have both H/W and... H/W :D

(And I'll just add a quick thank you to namasteyoga for the interview as well!)

How long do you have? *g* Also, do graphic novels count? Okay, I'll leave the graphic novels for now, because they're kind of a genre in themselves, and list five authors I love. In no particular order:

Orson Scott Card - almost everything he's written (except the Mormon history books). Particular favourites are Songmaster; Ender's Game; Hart's Hope; the Capitol series; the Alvin Maker series. As well as a lot of his short stories. Wait, that is almost everything...

Stephen Donaldson - I love his writing - very dense and descriptive and angst-heavy. Favourites: Chronicles of Thomas Convenant, the Unbeliever (fantasy) and the 'Gap' series (SF). Although there always does come a time where you want to belt his lead character over the head and say 'JUST STOP WHINING, ALREADY!"

Greg Egan - he's like a university course in a short story. He explores a lot of interesting and unusual themes in biology, physics and mathematics, and ties them in with human culture and identity. He's also Australian, which was something of a shock to me. I ( ... )
