Here we are again. For those of you stuck inside by last weekend's blizzard, here's a story to read and consider for the Hall of Fame. For those of us pondering why winter weather has been ignoring us and finding the half inch of snow outside unskiiable, here's a worthy distraction.
This week's story is "Last Rites" by Dira Sudis, which had multiple nominations.

Why it should be in a Housefic Hall of Fame: "Last Rites" is understated, well-paced, and insightful. Although Season 2 episodes have made this story an AU, it remains a lovely and very believable account of how Chase might have reacted to his father's death. This is also an excellent example of well-written Cameron POV.

Chase studied her for a moment and then said, "Because if it was your dad, I'd be there?"
"Yeah," Cameron said, taking a sip of her own water, looking down at her hands. "I mean, that's--that's what friends are for, right?"
She glanced up at him uncertainly. They were colleagues; they went out for drinks sometimes, with Foreman, as colleagues. She'd never presumed to call herself his friend before, nor call him hers, but she'd flown halfway around the world to say hello, so it seemed a little late to scruple at the word. "Yeah," he said, sounding as cautious as she felt. "I guess it is."
