We’ve got karaokegal on deck and other profiles coming up in the next few weeks, so if you’ve got time during the holidays, I’d encourage you to check things out ( Read more... )

Hi!

you seem, to me, to be present in a lot of fannish endeavours.

I think that might also be called "time to get a life outside of LJ." Heh.

I think that's true of me as well

And I love that about your fic; I can identify with that part of your writing process as I read the story, and it gives me something easy to seize on in feedback. "Sphinx" comes to mind right away, and your notes on "Harmony" too, when you talked about splitting the story into its discrete sections with epigraphs and (in the beginning, at least) word counts to match the original. Giving a story idea structure definitely makes the writing feel more manageable.

the intimacy seemed very intrusive for both House and Wilson. I wonder if that was intentional, or if it was just me. It was intentional-at least, it definitely was in the second part, where House is on the receiving end. That was uncomfortable for me to write, as it was uncomfortable for House to accept what Wilson was offering, and between that and the clinical setting, to this day I have ( ... )

I haven't done DVD commentaries yet, but I'm about sixth in line now at ficcommentary, and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm trying to think of something meaningful to say, but really I'm like one of those American Idol audience members with a big hand-glittered posterboard sign.

"BIRONIC ROCKS!"

"We ♥ Bironic!"

You are truly the renaissance fan, an expert in writing, betaing, analysis, meta. In particular, as I've said before: You are a masterclass on how to critique. You pour your heart and your mind into it, and blow my mind every time. Amazing. I apologize for every time I haven't returned the favor, because your writing certainly deserves it.

Ooh, I've never had fans with glittery signs before. Except maybe for one time when my friends met me at the airport with a piece of posterboard with my name on it. *g ( ... )

I love your writing, but the sestinas particularly have stuck with me. That's the most concentrated form of writing, and those are like gorgeous little gems.

How do you regard your own fic writing? It's something that does take a lot of time and hones skills as a writer, and most of the "not fic-writing" world tends to think such things should be a stepping stone to turning it into something that makes money. (Yes, we've sort of talked about this, so I'm sneaking it in over here. :) )

*waves* I enjoy reading not only your stories, but your comments on other people's stories -- I love that you look not only at technical features of writing, but also deeper literary connections. And you do it in such an appealing, enthusiastic way that makes me smile the moment I see "Wistful Neil."

What do you think about the slippery slope that is "canon"? The show itself is written by a team of writers, who individually are able to manipulate the characters according to their immediate needs, possibly not looking at the Big Picture (i.e., the complete story of House). Do you ever suspect, deep down, that some fanfiction can be more powerful than "canon"? (I can think of some great classic works of literature that were "better" than their original source material.)

P.S. Melodrama is one of my favourite things -- as it is for people who like soap operas and, indeed, operas. ;-) I don't think it is always necessary to play it safe. Also: some people like Armani, some like Versace -- colour and drama are a personal thing.
