The Black Friars, along with a few other monastic clusters dotted about the Underside, are the only groups that have history regarding London Below and its people written down. "That we will. Did the Martin-a-field clan scurry back to Marylebone like the cowards they are?"

He rises and walks over to her, pressing his lips to her forehead. He knows she's even more weary of the mess than he is.

"I didn't find out anything new," he admits. "But I do have something I want to talk to you about. Come sit with me."

He takes her hand and walks with her to the loveseat fitted into the nook between walls of bookshelves. Four candles burn on the end table beside it at all times, in memory, and it's one of Tom's favorite places to sit with Door to talk of the future, the present, and the past. He sits with her, his lady, and says in all seriousness, "I've been thinking about the Underside and our place in it."
