Considering that he's crossing to the table to lift off the lid and have a look even as he asks the question, it's not really worth answering.
"It's been a while since I've had the strawberry," he concludes, which seems to be the brotherly version of yes, please, I'd love some if you would be so kind.

Thus, one can always be certain that, sooner or later, Edmund will end up there.
(And maybe he's been keeping something of an eye out for his little sister, too. Just maybe.)
At any rate, he does eventually appear, stepping through the painting from the common room, and gives Lucy a quick smile.
