It seems I'm becoming increasingly too conservative for you, dear. We're not going to convince each other, so save your energy and let's just not argue.

I'm not going to get drawn into the trap of pouring my effort into explaining why all of your examples of boycotts working are completely different than a few hipster do-gooders deciding not to go to Walmart.

I will reiterate: if it makes you feel good, do it, or don't. If it plagues your conscience to eat at McDonald's don't. Just know you're making the decision for yourself, and you're not actually changing anything.

What got me started on this rant was actually my own bitching and moaning about BP. I realized that absolutely nothing I post on my blog or on FB is going to change a damn thing. I realized that even if I actually drove a car and was a potential BP customer, all I'd be doing by boycotting BP is hurting the people who work there selling Marlboros and Doritos for minimum wage. That's IF my boycott was successful. Which is why I say, "fuck it." I don't expect you to agree with me, and I really don't care if you think I'm clever.

Boycotting BP is doing lots of good- it's putting the local owners of the gas stations out of business. Let's here it for sticking it to the man...oops.

I think "in this economy?" is more an acknowledgment of the radical idea that (in this economy) you should live within your means just in case. IDK, I'd had a credit card for years before I understood that some people never paid the full amount, just picked at the minimum balance very month.
So I save my pennies for Frappuccinos-I figure once every few months I'm worth one.

I'm still in shock that you guys like Starbucks coffee. I wonder if there is a quality difference across countries because here it just seems a bit watered down and... well... there are much better places to get coffee/hot chocolate/chai! Is there much of a cafe culture there?

Well, a Frappucino is kind of like a vaguely coffee flavoured milkshake, really. There are definitely better places to get Coffee, but if you're going to smother it in sugar, flavoring, cream, and whipped cream, it doesn't really matter.

I rarely get actual drip coffee at Starbucks. I'm fond of the fruit Frapps, Tazo iced teas, and the occasional Cinnamon Dulce latte, which has a unique cinnamon flavoring I can't find anywhere else. Also, they have some baked goods I'm fond of.

It's still more a matter of convenience for me, anyway. When I move to a place where there isn't a Starbucks literally 50 yards from my house, I probably won't go there as much.
