Racial and Ethnic Relations. American society is all too happy to sweep topics like modern day racism and white privilege under the rug or outright deny their existence.

...the irony of this is that I was just talking to Numi about it (it was one of the classes offered this summer from the Anthro department) and I told her that I find it an inherently frustrating topic in general because of how quickly it becomes a hotbed of "Well, you're X race, you don't have a damn clue what you're talking about" or how quickly it turns into something like "YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T FIND CRACKER OFFENSIVE YOU RACIST." Like, if your personal experience contradicts the lit on the issue you are automatically invalidating people's struggles in terms of their race or yours and you are automatically racist.
So yeah, not that it's not an important issue...but I think taking a class might give me a permanent dent in my forehead. Then again, maybe making everybody take a class might cut down on some of the nonsense that goes along with talking about race.
Actually never ran into that problem in the class! We held very civil discussions, given the severity of the topic, and it was just an enlightening experience all around.

It was really good. I was dreading it at first but man, I'm so happy I took it.
