do you still have a hammock--either the one from the back yard or the one from down by the water--and a place to hang it?

Yes, we have both. And the metal hammock stand is in the back yard, overlooking the pond and marsh. Last year I never once hung the hammock and sat in it. Perhaps I will this year.

I'm really glad you like your townhouse & don't pine for the old place! Cohousing does seem to fit where you & Jacob are in your lives well, or so I imagine. Sitting on the front porch chatting with passers-by sounds lovely.... :-)

Yes, it fits us well. Would not have done a few years ago, Nancy and I looked at it and decided no. I was just commenting to a neighbor over dinner, how much happier I am now than a couple years ago. Cohousing is not the only reason we are happier, but it certainly is one of the top three.

It'll be interesting to see how we grow in the next few years, how our needs change, and whether cohousing continues to fit those needs. I don't know the answer. I can easily imagine staying here for the next 10 years or more, but I can also imagine leaving. I just don't know. We'll find out, I guess.

I'll be very interested in your reaction to our new house when you next see it -- it has a lot of your old house in it now that we've moved in. And yet it's very different, while still being very Rave/Kauppi.

I'm glad the new owners at Laurin are managing OK, and that they like the place.

I wouldn't read too much into Jacob not wanting to go - he would rather have his nose in a book than nearly anything. Remember how you had to nearly drag him out of the house to take a ride on the trike?

Every couple of years I drive past the house I grew up in. I haven't had the nerve to ask to see inside. The similarities between that house and the one I now own are part of the reasons why I bought this one.

Nostalgia without regrets is a good balance.
