I am thrilled as well. First, that the person that I voted for actually won. (That is nice for a change.) And that so many other people saw it the way I did. I expect that we will start seeing a change in morale almost immediately.
There is one odd thing - this is the first time we will have a president who is younger than me. It had to happen someday.
Unlike you, I am almost grateful that my father didn't live to see this day. Being a Republican, and a gun-toting bigot, he would have spent a good deal of energy spewing his intolerance and imagining assassination. Or threatening to move to Cuba.
I've been thinking a lot about Mom too during this election day and day after; she would just be flying, she'd be so engaged and energized and excited and triumphant. It makes me miss her, and wish she could have lived to see it happen; I think she died at such a dark time in American politics that she might not have really known that eventually it WOULD happen; I sure wasn't sure!
I've been thinking about your mom and my dad these last few days, and about how pleased they both would be with the results of this presidential election. I'm glad that Obama's grandma's vote counted.
A few weeks ago my mom didn't come visit Alec and me because she was registering people to vote at a nearby old folks home. what good grandparents our children have.
