It's Xanga's fault. I don't know why, but it makes people dumber and more adamant at the same time.

It really is Xanga's issue. They offer reassurance right there on the support site, a form for reporting hotlinkers. And...nothing ever happens. *sigh*

Xanga won't do a thing. A year ago I contact them regarding hotlinking and they just answered that it was my responsibility to have protection enabled in my image host/personal website and because fanart is made with images whose copyright I don't own then there are no reasons for them to take actions against their users.

Best thing is what you did, at least, they'll have something ugly showing in their site, even if it is a pain to re-edit when you have many icons stolen.
