People I've never talked to will start a conversation with me with the question, "So how long have you been dating her?"

Its like, well 1. who said it was a she, and 2. two and a half years

LOL. yeah, i was really confused for a good ten minutes after that convo. And neither one of my rings look like they could pass for a wedding ring.

I'd never heard that having a ring from someone meant you were engaged/promised. Then again, the rings I have are either hand-me-down, self bought, class ring, or one that Amy bought me.

Yeah, i guess they do mean that now. Did you miss the memo also?? I walked out and told Johnnie the convo, he laughed pretty hard about it.

I guess I did miss the memo... I figured a ring meant a little more than bracelet/necklace/earrings, but not necessarily promise/engagement. I always though engagement rings usually have a prominent diamond, too.

Yeah, I always figured that also. Not all engagement rings have diamonds, one of my friend's ring is an opal (her birthstone) with rubies around it (his birthstone). I don't want diamonds for my engagement or wedding ring. I want something different. But I'm strange.
