amtoriaaday, I felt inspired to write this.
When no one is looking, she sneaks a peek over at Amber, smiling softly and resisting the urge to reach out and touch; the little fine hairs on the back of her neck, the dip in her lower back, just above her baggy jeans, or even-
To gently touch Amber’s cheek, until the younger girl turns towards her, grins, and before she can even speak, to close the distance between them with a kiss.
***
When no one is looking, she takes a small risk and glances over at Victoria, eyeing her bright smile and ignoring the longing in her heart. It’s unreal, Amber thinks to herself, just how beautiful and wonderful this girl is. Her brown eyes, porcelain skin, curly hair. Her kind nature, her bubbly attitude, her fierce determination.
She’s perfect.
***
When no one is looking, she lets herself imagine, lost in a daydream she wishes to come true.
They’re on a couch, Amber’s arm across her shoulder and her fingers tracing little circles along her bare arm. She leans into the touch, her head perfectly nestled against Amber’s shoulder, and it‘s so wonderful, this moment of innocent love, until she’s brought back down to earth.
“Day dreaming again, unnie?” the girl of her desires asks, a teasing grin on her face.
Victoria nods, “Yeah,” she responds softly, looking over at the blank television screen, “It was a nice one, too.”
***
When no one is looking, she stares out the window and into the clouds, sending a prayer to whoever’s out there to let these dreams come true.
She envisions them laying in the grass, Victoria’s curly hair fanned out behind her like some kind of halo, a big smile on her face as she points to the clouds with one hand, because the other hand is woven with hers. They giggle and watch the clouds go by, until it becomes dark, and then they count the stars in each other’s eyes, falling for each other faster than a shooting star.
“Amber,” she snaps out of her dream and turns toward Victoria, who’s starring at her in concern, “Is everything alright?”
She nods, “Just watching the clouds,” she tells Victoria, who smiles and sits with her, petting her hair comfortingly.
***
When no one is looking, she carefully sneaks her way into Amber’s room, quietly closing the door behind her. Once there, she makes her way towards the girl’s bed and lays down in it, snuggling into the cozy blankets and burying her face into Amber’s pillow. She stays like this for awhile, her eyes closed and her breathing easy.
When she finds herself getting sleepy, she leaves, pushing aside the ache in her heart that suddenly makes it impossible to breathe.
***
When no one is looking, she logs into the computer and opens up the internet, glancing over her shoulder every few seconds in paranoia. She quickly opens the search bar and types Victoria Song, hitting enter and waiting for the page to load. Once it does, she begins browsing through the photos, eyeing the hundreds of picture of Victoria; smiling, not smiling, straight hair, curly hair, dressed adorably, dressed sexily.
She stumbles across a picture, one that threatens to shatter her heart and bring tears to her eyes. They’re laughing, and she’s sitting down while Victoria is leaning over her, arms wrapped around her shoulders, and her hand is on Victoria’s forearm, clutching it.
This could be them.
***
When no one is looking, she breaks, her once strong will falling apart at the seams. She can’t take it anymore; these suppressed desires, haunting daydreams, the what if’s that plague her at all hours.
She grabs Amber by the hand, minutes before they’re about to go on stage. Everyone around her is shouting, asking if the microphones are ready, is the right song selected, is their hair securely fastened with far too many clips?
Amber turns towards her, her eyes questioning.
Victoria stares, uneasy, doubt clawing at her insides. She hopes Amber can understand, can read the message displayed in her eyes.
I love you. Please love me back.
Amber’s eyes widened, and Victoria looks away, down at the floor where nothing can hurt her.
***
When no one is looking, Amber stares at Victoria with wide eyes, shocked speechless by the longing look Victoria had just shot her moments ago. Had she really just seen that, or were daydreams attacking her again, teasing her with the love she craved so badly.
“Victoria,” she said in a weak voice, squeezing the other’s hand, “Victoria, please,” she begged.
Please let this be real.
***
When everyone is looking, Victoria smiles, tears gathering in the corners of her eyes and threatening to smear her mascara.
Amber smiles back, and thirty seconds before they have to run out on stage, she closes the distance between, removing her hand from Victoria’s and letting it rest on her waist, instead.
Victoria leans in, a hand on Amber’s cheek, and she imprints this moment into her memory, where she’ll never forget the way Amber feels, warm body pressed against her, soft lips dancing against her own.
Amber pulls away, feeling the weight of everyone staring at them. She pushes it aside, and runs her fingers along the smooth skin of Victoria’s hip, “Later?” Amber asks, lips quirked up in a silly smile.
Victoria giggles, “Later,” she nods, and then they’re running out onto the stage, their song blaring through the speakers.
