Watched "Star Trek - The Motion Picture" the other day. I think it actually holds up remarkably well. Yes, I know that it is often derided as the "Slow-Motion Picture", but it's rather soothing to watch the Enterprise's slow passage through V'ger. I remember when it first came out and getting goosebumps during the sequence where Scotty pilots a pod ( Read more... )

“Enterprise - Ship of Dreams”

From Jerry Goldsmith's brilliant soundtrack to Star Trek: The Motion(less) Picture, which would eventually re-appear as the theme to Star Trek: The Next Generation.

A gentle, nostalgic opening that asks, Do you remember?  The Enterprise, the most famous spaceship in TV history, known the world over as a symbol of the hope for a better future, and of “Space, the Final Frontier”…  The “five year mission” of wonder and splendor aboard the starship that turned our eyes to the stars, the ship that meant so much to so many…  Do you remember?

I do have this soundtrack, on CD and copied to my mp3 player. Hell, I had it as an LP first of all and yes, the "Enterprise" theme is magnificent. "Leaving Drydock" is wonderful too, a phoenix, arisen from the ashes, stretching her new wings...

I think that "Wrath of Khan" is a much better movie (the best
of the Trek films overall in fact)

Yes - A LOT of people STILL do.  Which really ticks some other people off, who would like to think that the Last Best Star Trek Movie was NOT made thirty-three years ago! ( - gulp)

Okay, so, make a better one, ya buncha whiners.  J J Abrams tried, I guess - I'll give him that much, if no more…
