Livejournal, i have neglected you for a long time. I now only visit you when i am procrastinating. And so it goes: i am at uni trying to write a tutorial presentation, which i have the feeling is not actually very difficult, but i hate the process. Read article, isolate key issues, isolate references, research references, explain article structure ( Read more... )

Okay, this is very very loosely related, so anyway. Did you know that at some Respected But Stupid universities in Queensland they actually use their own experiences whilst researching music like "omg today was like so bad this doesn't make sense" as publishable research? I believe it's called Narrative Enquiry and it is the biggest load evers. Unfortunately the head of my music school is one of these people who do this type of research. One day I can really see myself slipping up and telling her that what she does is unviable bollocks, but we'll see.

And hey, opera ftw. Also, we had to do participation for some of our honours subjects and wow was it not so much fun because some people could not handle being asked reasonable questions. It was insane. Here's to hoping you have less loony people in your year.

No that's totally related! They spent all of first semester trying to convince us about this so-called "Practice-Led Research" that is necessary for Masters and PhD level art. While yes, art is often (usually) the result of research, it's not necessarily - nor should it be - the result of Research. As in ACTUAL Research that people like yourself have to engage in, that requires things like verifiable sources and case studies and you know, things that aren't entirely subjective like "omg today was so bad". Exactly. Biggest Load Evers.
Who makes art for a PhD anyway, it's entirely beside the point.
