This is my take on the previously posted CNN.COM article regarding hotel fees and how to avoid them. Here's the link in case none of you know what I'm going on about. Do forgive me but willfully ignorant people are one of my MAJOR pet peeves

I <3 u more and more, with each post...I, too, hate the "willfully ignorant."

It also makes me angry when a writer just throws out opinions like they're "facts." I'd love to know where Ms. Bennett came up with her ideas.

I'm interested to know where she found out that third party sites prices, with these misterious additions are the same asthe hotels themselves. n99% of the time at my hotel our price is way below what the third party is paying, let alone wht the person is paying the third party.

And ummm, since when can you get your full bill the night before? To my knowledge things are added as you use em, like the phone. And room charges are done through the night audit. You can't just say 'yeah i somehow know your going to use the phone for x minutes and the phone company is going to charge that for x amount'.

As long as you didn't use anything extra, you could - in theory - settle at any point during your stay. Even at check in. But still, the second you bill something to your room, it's all shot to shit.

I think maybe she just meant if you're only paying for room and tax you could settle out the night before - but I'm not sure how that helps? You can do it in the morning too.....wtf is the difference??

i hate it when they want their bills the night before. or worse-- at check in. like... i can CHARGE YOUR CARD and give you a receipt saying that i charged it, but if you want a bill that has your room charges for your (inevitably) three or four night stay on it as well, you're better off just waiting until you check out to get it. it's a pain to put 3 different room night charges on a portfolio, charge the card, and then either delete the charges or change the room rate to 0.00 so they don't get charged more... which leads to the owner asking why these people got a free room and then MORE charges being tacked on because they thought there was a mistake and they were trying to fix it (although god knows why cuz if you go into the portfolio, you can SEE the three or four nights' charges....)

in short-- HEADACHE. just take what we give you, WHEN we GIVE IT TO YOU and SHUT UP.

Or, in my case, having to reverse three days' worth of room and tax because the computer does it automatically every night. It's a royal pain in the ass if someone wants to settle their bill two days in advance. So I tell them no.

I'm sure she's a lovely person. But she's stupid. She needs to work in the hotel industry to understand what it's like. Complaining, throwing temper tantrums will just make want to make you more miserable than you already are. You snooze you lose, man. Deal with it.
I mean, if you had a clogged toilet in your house, would you wait and wait? People are dumb.
