There is a fly dying on my stoop; it's too cold for him and everytime I go down to smoke he has crawled a little further away but he isn't flying and I can't bring myself to mercy-kill him. I feel sentimental toward him, like "I will keep vigil with you on your deathbed, poor little fly," but I think this is taking my not-killing-bugs psychosis to ( Read more... )

How very Emily Dickinson of you! LOL! I have to admit that I have no love of most things that buzz about. I encourage Lucy shamelessly to chase them about the house. Flies, mosquitoes, snakes and other scaly things, creepy crawly things like spiders, and most birds aren't really on my "Do Not Kill" list. Of course I'm only two generations removed from people who slaughtered their own chickens...
