"Still wizard-shaped!" Ronan replied, grinning, too. "Putting my ducks in a row for the end of the summer. I can't believe it's August already -- I sometimes feel like I just got to the island for the first time a few days ago."
"I'm pulling a Carmela," he explained, "and heading off-world. Not sure where I'm going to start, though; I figure I'll head to the Crossings and see where the winds take me."
"The Crossings by way of Vegas. Or Disneyland for that reunion," Isabel told him. "I want to see you before you take off for the stars." If only to say goodbye properly, she thought, unable to prevent a sudden painful rush of memories of Jack from surfacing.
She'd have to be careful with saying that; Ronan had his own ideas of what a 'proper goodbye' could entail.
"Definitely not missing the reunion," Ronan promised. "For all that I haven't actually left the island yet. And Las Vegas could easily be in the cards, too," he assured her. "And it's not like I won't be back!"
"I've left. That's enough for it to count," she replied. "So be there. And you're always welcome here. There's plenty of couch space." He'd be back. Just like someone else. Yeah, Isabel wasn't continuing that line of thought. "You'd better be back. No one else appreciates my taste buds properly."
"Y'know," Ronan said to that, "that reminds me -- I came across a mention online recently, a review of this little ice creamery up in Nova Scotia that apparently does a Mexican chocolate ice cream to die for. Fancy a trip up at some point, by way of Air Wizardry?"
"No dying," Isabel firmly. Savannah had finally told her over lunch that Ronan was one of the people that had died casting the spell in the other reality. Even though Isabel knew her Ronan was alive and well in Fandom, it still made her feel sad for that other Isabel. "Not allowed. Not in this reality."
"Sorry," Isabel apologized. "Savannah's out here and today she was telling me about what happened last week. Not just in Fandom, but in the other reality. Hearing what happened to you...I just had to call and check in." She was tired, it was the only reason she didn't realize from Ronan's tone that he didn't know.
And that would be Isabel catching a clue. "No one told you?" she asked, heading into an unoccupied meeting room and shutting the door. "About what you did in the other Fandom?"
"No one mentioned anything," Ronan said. "But I was more busy with the people who were still sleeping, and I haven't really gotten out much this week..."
Which would be why, after she had a quick dinner, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

It's not like anyone calling him wouldn't know that greeting, anyway.

For all that Isabel knew, no one had thought to mention to Ronan that his other self had died that way.
