catching up with British TV: The Hour 1.02 and 1.03
I thought the pilot was slow and even boring. But the last two episodes warmed me up to it. I like this show best when it's being a thriller serial with Freddy the amateur, innocent gumshoe rather than watching McNulty Dominic West do his impression of a poor man's Don Draper.

Yeah the pilot kinda sucked beside the ending and the show is a lot better when it's focusing on the thriller aspects. I don't understand why they keep trying to shove the Hector/Bel love interest thing when it's so obvious that her and Freddie are in love with each other. Just trying to draw out some drama~. I hate Hector in general but that's mainly cause I hate Dominic West. It's just his face. And I think he sucks as an actor.

I don't understand the comparisons to Mad Men at all. OMG they smoke in doors! SAME SHOW.

OUI. His face begs for a punch. I think it's his way of smirking all the time that inspires this feeling in me, idk. Jimmy McNulty bleeds through parts of his performance as Hector, mostly because McNulty was an asshole and I suspect West can't play anything but an asshole.

I spent so much time during episode three internally screaming "get your fucking hands OFF her Hector!" and clawing at my face. It just all felt so wrong. Not just because Freddy/Bel is clearly superior, but ti was just like "oh, I'm the handsome male newscaster with a wife in the country and you're the independent female producer, we'd better just have an affair now."

They are so cliche, I agree. Bel, WHAT WHAT WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

Yes I just, I guess I don't see what she sees in him. And it isn't that I dislike him so much, it just doesn't ... make sense with what we know of Bel. Come to that, I don't really know what it is that he sees in her either. The whole thing doesn't make sense to me and hopefully it'll be like a short-term thing then they have to deal with the awkwardness of it and they'll take it in that direction.

Hopefully they won't drag it out. I can understand Hector's motivation for it (he's bored as a married man and chaffing at the role Marnie wants him to play blah blah blah) but idg why Bel is doing this at all.
