There's an article on Salon about journalistic ethics, stemming from this crazy Washington DC press party, where our Vice President goes down a waterslide in khakis and a polo shirt:

Yes, that's the man one heartbeat away from being the Leader of The Free World, chasing children with a super-soaker. I really do love Joe Biden, even though I have no ( Read more... )

I think that our politicians should be able to celebrate being real people. They used to. I remember all the bugs bunny cartoons where the politicians big things was to kiss babies. That came from real life.

I had a hard on for Howard Dean as a presidential candidate. I loved him more after the whole "over exuberance" mishap(?). I was like, hell yeah! I want a president that can hu-yeah!

It's better than the alternative. Keeping your real life and real emotions bottled up until you molest an intern or seduce someone in an airport bathroom.

Obama gave the graduation speech at Kalamazoo Central last night, which is cool. But, to your point about also being real: he came early and met with the seniors and then stayed on stage to shake every graduate's hand. I think a lot of other politicians would have done the photo op, cranked out the speech and then headed for the plane.

This two party system, where one yelp of joy can knock you out of contention, is not good for our country. There are some crazy-assed political parties in other countries that get actual seats in their government--I wish we had that here, not the near-identical suit-dressed, over-handled politicians that "represent" us now.

I completely agree and dream of a Senate class photo that one day will have at least one mohawk, one green haired person, one or more hippie dread lock dudes, and maybe even a canadian or two, maybe a short person? I don't see myself in the men or women in stiff suits with plaster molded hair. When Hilary gets uber criticized for crying? When Dean can't yell out in excitement? I mean, come on. Let's start being real. :)

There’s thing thing where, if you’re a politician of a certain rank, you’re not allowed to be seen having fun because it means that the Serious Issues of The World (tm) aren’t being addressed. Or you’re getting too chummy with the enemy. Or whatever. I call BS on that. I say, if you want to go out, have a good time, and shoot a man in the face, well then you’re the VP. Do as you like.
