I'm one of those people who thinks that splitting hairs between the definitions of "nerd" and "geek" is utterly redonkulous. Yeah, that's right, I said it, redonkulous. If we were to use the original definitons, we'd separate prospective members by the following criterea:
Nerd: "A foolish, inept, or unattractive person." ...kind of negates calling the community "the hot nerds," now doesn't it?
Geek: "A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken." ...so, apparently Ozzy Osbourne is the only person these days qualified to be called a geek.
I know that I don't sit here with a checkbox list of criterea to deem whether or not someone is a "geek" or a "nerd;" either you're geeky/nerdy, or you're not. I just call it like I see it. And I see that you are definitely a geek, nerd, what-have-you.
The whole nerd- and geek-issue, in regards to their original meanings, does indeed make it funny when you think of the name of this community. But in today's world, "nerd" and "geek" have new meanings, or at least, new meanings that have been thoroughly accepted as new meanings.
Cos they're silly people that thought, one day in the past, that "news for nerds" sounded much better than "news for geeks", due to the alliteration I'm sure. I agree with them on that, mind you, it does sound better. :)
