Nowadays
"I can hardly believe it's been ten years." I sat back in the swing on the porch, making it sway slightly.
"Ten years of peace is a good thing, Heero." Trowa raised an eyebrow at me. "You make it sound like you miss the war." He smirked.
"You know I don't. I miss our young foolishness. Our optimism in even the most gruesome of situations."
"I don't think we're doing too bad today."
"No, we're not. We're lucky to even be alive. What I mean is, well, we came from similar backgrounds, you know? Paying the bills on time is our only worry now. It feels... odd."
"I know what you mean. I've had a tough time settling down. The circus has helped."
"Old habits die hard."
"It's better than being in a coma for a month or having amnesia." Trowa raised a knowing eyebrow at me.
"Yeah, I suppose it is."
"Nowadays, we can walk to the store without hiding who we are. We can water the lawn and plant flowers if we want. It may not be exciting, but it's better than constantly being on the brink of death."
I smiled slightly. Trowa always did know how to put things into perspective. "Yeah, things are alright."
He leaned back in his chair and smirked. "Yeah, they are."

Hiding in the Tube Slide
We all have our baggage from the war. I should have known better than to bring up Wing Zero, but I did it anyway.
That explains why I was searching the neighborhood for Quatre at eleven o'clock at night.
He just feels so guilty. No matter my assurances that he wasn't himself, he feels the need to take the blame. It wasn't his fault, and I truly believe that. If only he could understand it.
I found him hiding in the tube slide at the playground down the street.
"Love?"
A dull thump on the plastic was the only response I received.
"Please come out."
"No."
I sighed a little, crawling partway into the tube. "Don't make me drag you out, sweetheart."
"Just leave me alone."
I grabbed his foot, pulling him partway down. He tried to find purchase on the slick walls, but they offered none. "Heart, please, I just..."
I hushed him by snaking a hand up his body and pressing it to his lips. "It's okay. It's over now. It was never you to begin with."
"It was." He whispered against my fingertips and I yanked him the rest of the way out of the tube.
"No," I said softly, pressing my lips gently to his, "It wasn't."
I pulled him up and held him close, just letting him absorb my warmth. "I can never forgive myself."
"Then let me," I said, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the house.
I know that no matter what I do, I can't make him forgive himself. I can just take the time to let him know that I have, and I will do whatever it takes to show it to him.

Every Step of the Way
I've known Touya Akira for just six short years, but in those six years, he's become the best friend I could ever hope to have.
He's pushed me to become what I am today, and he has been there for me every step of the way. When my grandpa died, he picked out my clothes, straightened my tie and drove me to the service. He listened with rapt attention when I told him about Sai, and he never once doubted my story. He's spend every May 5th with me since then, just doing small things to keep my mind at ease.
We've laughed together and we've cried together. I've helped him loosen up and he's helped me become more serious.
And today, I'm setting out his clothes and pulling the car around the front. The passing of Touya's father has been hard for him, but I'll be with him all the way.
