Here you go: BSG, Dr Coulter, early season 1, no spoilers (200 words exactly)

***

There are, he discovered, thirty-eight other physicians, nurses, and medical technicians in the fleet - including one third-year veterinary student with an interest in laboratory rodents and a mortician's assistant.

Five of those physicians and seven of the nurses are beyond retirement age. Another two have not yet completed their residencies. Including himself, there are seventeen physicians for forty seven thousand people.

He has eight technicians trained in radiography and computer-assisted imaging - none of them current on the antiquated equipment in Galactica's sickbay.

Nearly all of them can place a peripheral catheter - or so they claim. One of the exceptions is a traditionally trained midwife, but she comes with other skills that will soon, he fears, be badly needed.

He makes a list of the things that can not be easily duplicated in the labs: progesterone, for menstrual cycle regulation. Morphine, for pain control, and surgeries. Isoflorane, although halothane makes a close replacement. Another note - ask about dental carry material. They have enough fluorine, thank the gods. Intravascular protein replacers, which would be less of a problem if CPDA was in greater supply.

Tobacco. Coulter takes another drag and holds the smoke as long as he can.
