I don't think you should be ashamed of that ^-^. Personally, I always thought of Mako as transwoman.

I agree that Mako is the most courageous one.

Her mom is so loving <3. All moms and dads should react like that when their child admits things like that! But yeah, the plastic surgery part...

'Anything to stop you grumbling!' LOL XD!

But at the end of the day, not all parents can react like that. A lot of parents report grief upon learning their 'son' or 'daughter' is in fact, well...*not*. Transpeople often have to put on such an act as a 'boy' or 'girl', it's often pretty devastating to learn as a parent that the 'son' you knew for so many years was simply an act :(. And I guess a lot of people are simply shocked.

But Mako's mum's response was pretty heartwarming and it's certainly true that in a better world more parents would respond like she did. But then again in her case it's not like it came completely out of the blue. Judging by comments made by Mako in volume 3, she's always been telling her mum she wanted to dress as/be a girl since childhood, but just wasn't taken seriously. So I guess to her mum it isn't a massive shock. But mostly, Mako's mum just seems like an easygoing kind of person who just accepts everything XD. That's a nice kind of personality to have :).
