The author apparently co-wrote the screenplay, so I guess it would. One good side to the author being part of the production team is that it means they won't butcher the plot.
I'm glad you liked it! You've very critical of what you read so... XD But yeah, the other 2 are just as good. A lot of people bitch about the very end but I felt it suited the whole thing just like how Holic's ending suited it.
I'm glad to hear that you liked it! I put off reading it for a long time too, but when I finally did I was surprised by how much I liked it. I still haven't seen the movie though, I need to do that.
I need to see the movie at some point too >.<. And yeah, I put it off because of the hype, but when I read it it surprised me by actually being really good.
Just curious, since your blog is mostly about manga, anime, Japan, etc. if you've ever heard of Battle Royale, since its seems like the high point of the story for you is its shocking, unsettling, thought provoking plot of kids being forced to kill each other. That seems to be what wins a lot of people over about it, but its not as if the concept hasn't been done before. For me, a concept being done before is far from something to discredit a story, but when (imo) it's done a whole lot better...Battle Royale is classic and sadly hasn't been widely known in the Western world because of its gruesome, dark plot but I believe on every point, though it is different from The Hunger Games in a few key ways even in those differences it is a 10x better story for the same idea. Both the book and its movie adaptation. I haven't gotten to read the manga adaptations yet.
Yeah, I have heard of Battle Royale, and I've got to admit that I do find the similarities between the two books a little suspicous. Somehow I struggle to buy the authors insistance that she had 'never even heard' of Battle Royale before finishing the Hunger Games. Especially since you would think, in the massive publishing team that works together to put a book in to print and market it, there would have been *atleast one* person who had read the original Japanese novel and mentioned it. But I agree, re-using plot ideas, when done very well, is not a reason to discredit a book itself. Both Battle Royale and the Hunger Games are both brilliant in their own rights.
