Lunchtime Blogging :)

There's a fancy literary term that I can't immediately bring to mind for that kind of novel, where the hero goes around enduring trials and experiences, learning something or nothing. Some of the more famous: Candide, Don Quixote, Gulliver's Travels, the Oddyssey, the Arabian Nights, Cold Mountain (which is modeled on the Oddyssey), etc. Some of them have a nominal goal, such as getting home, but the main point is the adventures that happen along the way. So yeah, I think you're on a good track :D

Thanks. The funny thing is in the second book the main character has a much more concrete defined goal, but all the growth and such in the first book gets her to the point to be able to carry on the more typical "quest" in book 2.

I might have heard of the term, but can't think of it either at the moment. I'll have to read some of the books when I get a chance (been wanting to read more literary stuff).

I'll have to check that out of the library sometime soon, thanks for the recommendation. I've been working my way through all the books my mom lent me awhile back, but I may box them back up for her before we move to avoid packing them with our own books.
