missing places

This girl I went to high school with - just a random girl who I never really talked with or anything but happen to be facebook friends with - just posted a huge photo album with pictures from Hawaii (which it looks like she visited over her winter break). It is always good, yet sad, to remember the places we once cared for or had deep experiences at. This is how I feel about Pratt and my old apartment, for example. Sometimes you wish you could go back to a certain moment or span of time. But ultimately, time goes forward and its important to keep our attention in the here and now. And it's also important to look ahead to new experiences, adventures, and special moments in time. Dwelling in nostalgia does not do us well!

i know how you feel. i miss times and places sometimes. i go through phases when i really miss living in oakland. just today i remembered i used to walk through the warm rain there, during its rainy season, and flowers were in bloom even during the winter, and how the big jasmine bush right outside my bedroom window would infuse my whole room with its scent. when i get like that, i remind myself that it's good to remember and feel thankful for such experiences, but to also realize that there will be more unforgettable and amazing experiences in the future too. life isn't over yet and we've got a lot to look forward to.

also, those pictures are gorgeous and i can only hope that one day i'll get to see south africa! you are so lucky to have had such an incredible experience! i hope kate's experience in ghana is equally enchanting :)
