Went to Plymouth yesterday for Thanksgiving. The rock is small. But, there was excitement. A group of native americans were having an anti-thanksgiving rally, complete with burning sage and an elder's prayer to the Great Spirit. Mmmm. actually i have walked past that spot- a couple times...although i never noticed a sign or anything..i looked it up to see where it was located. next time i will try to notice if there is some sort of marker.

honestly, i had never heard of the molasses spill!

There is a marker somewhere around there. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it! It was quite interesting. They hired a guy to supervise the building of the steel structure but he wasn't anywhere close to having an engineers degree. He didn't oversee the building progress very well or really check properly for leaks. Right before prohibition, that company ordered a giant vat of molasses so they could make a lot of alcohol and ship it out. After they filled the structure almost full, it couldn't take the pressure and burst, sending steel flying and knocking down a nearby bridge. I know for sure that one fire fighter was killed. He drowned in the molasses...dkjfaldj. I'm not sure if anyone else was harmed.
