People have seven souls? I've only heard of "one"!

The average person has seven. The pharaohs of course have 14, which justifies their immediate entry into heaven and the land of the Gods I'm sure...

Only one is trustworthy enough to act as a guide in the land of the dead. Perhaps this is the "one" you have heard of. It is good to ignore the rest, in any case.

That's interesting. It's the first time I've heard about it. Huuh, it's very different from the idea from my home that's for sure. Where are you from?

I was born in Egypt, but I am from many places. I do not like to remain in any one place for long.

Seven souls? I can't say I'm familiar with a belief system that names seven souls.

No, not enough men know enough about themselves to such things.

Is that so?

You are intimately familiar with the rites...

Exceptionally intimate.
As you seem to be.

It is part of my land's history, though not necessarily of my people.

You speak the language as well as any of the people in the land. Is it that you do not believe or is it a more complicated matter?
I admit I`m a bit surprised to find anyone who speaks my language here. I`m more acustomed to speaking other languages than my own.

Oh, yes. It's been quite a while since anyone talked about this sort of thing outside of an academic context. I'm becoming an old man, I'm sure.

I'm sure the academics have said much. I care not to read them. They were not there, they could never know or understand, and yet pass so much judgment.

Why seven?

Seven is the number of eternal life and the number with the most power. I can only surmise this is related. But since 6 of the 7 are worthless after death, it isn't really important.
