I remember this intro fondly -- I think I heard the music from the "pit orchestra" at an impressionable age or something.

Best parts:
Everything in miniature, as I love tiny things.
Anthony Lover.
The dude with the pipe during the part about creating the HBO Spaceship.

I mean, I guess we should be glad that hoarders are doing their part, keeping videotapes for 25 years.

1. Other people's glorious obsessions are awesome, and they make me very glad my obsessive behavior is limited to being convinced that I didn't shut the garage door when I left in the morning.
2. His shirt is amazing.
3. That original Betamax TV/recorder combo has two TV tuners. My Tivo doesn't even have that!
4. A tape of Maude was in the machine that slid out to reveal the contents.
5. He has a wife??

I remember when TBS started at five after the hour, too! My dad told me it was so people could switch through all the other channels, decide nothing was on, and then whatever on TBS was just beginning.

When I was a wee sprout, we got a color TV (yes, we didn't have one until I was about five or so, only a 13" b&w model) and basic cable, which only consisted of about 15 local channels, plus TBS, where everything came on five minutes after the hour or half-hour.

And once a year or so, they would do the "HBO Free Weekend" and we got HBO for free, or perhaps The Movie Channel or Cinemax. But usually it was HBO, and then this glorious wonderful intro would come on, with its delightfully bombastic music.

Looking at this now, I honestly cannot say if I thought any part of it was real.

Also, it amuses me that the big flying HBO letters are supposed to be a "space station".
