No earlier than 1888.

This looks like an original Lee-Metford (1888) black powder rifle, not the SMLE introduced in 1904 - the Metford was longer and had a protruding barrel.

Early Lee-Enfield didn't have it, Lee-Metford did.

I own an SMLE, but it's a WW2 era MK4, not as sure about the older ones.

Also, sorry, Russian fonts completely fell apart on this browser.
