Every morning, on my way to work, I pass by a popular drive-through coffee vendor of whom you have all heard. Mom and I used to comment on it to each other that they always had a line, regardless of the time of day; if they were open, there was a line. On commute days, the line is absurd ( Read more... )

i know i comment sporadically these days but i really do try to read everything! so i will comment now since i have wondered the same thing! ;)

i'm not a coffee drinker, but i am a tea drinker, and i cannot stand my tea in anything but a proper cup, enjoyed at my leisure in a pleasant setting. if i just wanted caffeine i would take a pill. but i like the experience and the taste. you cannot taste anything in a cardboard cup.

at the deli next to my old apartment people started lining up for coffee by 5 a.m. and yelling outside loudly. why were they up that early? they obviously didn't have to be at work yet. they got up an extra half hour early to go get the coffee there. imagine: if they slept for another half-hour they might not even need the coffee!

Hrm in larger cities it makes sense because you usually walk past one on the way to the subway or train or whatever...but if you're driving, that is fucking retarded unless there's a drive through. heh

For me, it depends on where it's from.
Starbucks chai? Not an intricate flavor or much of a treat - that's just getting some sugar and caffeine into my system.

If I go to Samovar? *That* I'll savor. Because that's worth it. (Also, if I'm going to Samovar, I'm -going to Samovar-. It isn't a stop on the way to somewhere else kind of place.

Yes, I can make my own chai, and sometimes do. But the 10 minutes making it (as it involves bringing milk to just boiling, and some other timing issues, I can't leave the room to do other morning stuff) and another five for cleanup, plus the hassle of dealing with a thermos (that's had milk in it! Pretty disgusting if forgotten for more than a day!) vs. paying $3.50 and having someone else do it? I'd rather let them do it.
